Meet our Trainers....

Lauren VanderZicht - Head Trainer/Instructor/Coach Lauren is a Certified Ma and USHJA Trainer. She operates VanderZicht Stables. She has been riding for 30 years. She grew up in Connecticut riding under top trainers in the hunter/jumpers discipline through her successful Junior show career. She attended Assumption College where she became professional during her college years. As a professional, Lauren has been teaching and coaching beginners through advanced students for 10 years along with traveling the circuit and successfully competing. She now enjoys watching her students grow into successful equestrian athletes at home and at shows. She has recently opened up a non  profit organization Called Golden Island Thoroughbred Rescue. This Rescue she has developed allows her to rescue, rehab, train and compete the off track thoroughbreds. She is able to show their incredible capabilities as competitive show jumping athletes. She enjoys training her young horses throughout the A circuit and recently qualifying for National finals at the Kentucky national show Park. Her decision to open her own facility, VanderZicht Stables and Rescue, is a result of her expertise, experience and passion for the equine world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Abby Vanderbrug - Assistant Trainer - Abby has been riding at VanderZicht Stables since the beginning of her hunter/jumper career. She always knew she wanted this to be a part of her future even from a young age.  She has always worked incredibly hard to support her equine passion and further her skills throughout her riding career. She is an alumni to our IEA team. Abby is our top competitive rider throughout all of our IEA seasons. She is a qualifier at Zone Final's which took place at the eastern estates exposition. She now shares her expertise with our current IEA team.  She is currently working under Lauren to create and learn unique ways of teaching and training. She is dedicated to learning the techniques of training to bring green horses through the A circuit to have successful show careers. Her most recent accomplishment was competing on our youngest horse in training at Vermont Summer Festival. She sailed through her large jumping divisions coming out in the top eight. She  will also be awarded Reserve champion Rider in Connecticut for 2021. Abby travels and competes the A circuit with Lauren throughout the year. They work well together to bring each horse and rider to their fullest potential. She has an incredible way of connecting and communicating with her students. She shares her knowledge in an encouraging, professional manner that allows her students to progress quickly. Abby has been has been interning, teaching, coaching and training non-stop since she graduated Norfolk Agricultural High School in the spring of 2021. She loves getting her students ready for the show ring and guiding them to having a successful, safe experiences in competition. We are so incredibly lucky to have Abby and all of her knowledge on our team at VanderZicht Stables!

Matilda Miglio- Instructor/IEA Coach- Matilda has been riding since she was a young girl. She has owned her own horses riding and competing in her youth. She loves training and riding off track thoroughbreds. Her passion for teaching and riding shows in her lessons. She was on the ISHA team at Johnson and Wales University. She is now using her college riding experience to coach our IEA riders.  Our barn and riders are lucky to have her as a part of the team!
